Mother-of-Pearl Olivia
AFRICA
Mother-of-Pearl Olivia
Olivia needs her Mommy and Daddy to help her build up her strength so she can shine so bright!
5 year old female
Cerebral palsy
Olivia is just like a mother-of-pearl: the outside may look worn and not of much value but if you just take a look you will see a true luster of a sweet girl who has not been given the chance to show the gem she is. Olivia is not able to sit on her own as of right now and it is not known if that is because she is unable or if she just has not been given the chance to learn. She needs to be taken out of that crib and given every opportunity to explore the world God created for her.

Jack is an otherwise healthy and typical 5 year old little boy who loves to play with other children and eat cake at birthday parties. Jack tested positive for PKU but unfortunately was not given the medicine needed for this by his parents. PKU is said to cause mental delays if medicine is not given. The extent of any mental delay in Jack is not known at this time but he is a sweet little boy who plays and likes to have fun.

Just look at the smile on this young man.
Child's Name: John
Born: April 27, 2004
Mother and Father are unknown
After the crowd from an evangelism campaign dispersed, a local pastor found John, a small boy of about 4 years old. The pastor took the boy home with him thinking that he had been separated from his parents and that his parents would return looking for him. A few days later, the pastor took John to Social Action asking for help. On April 27, 2007 John came to live at the orphanage.
Upon arriving at the orphanage it was discovered that John was epileptic and he had several seizures. For some time after each seizure, John was not able to talk or to respond to the care-takers. John is now taking medicine for the seizures and it is rare that he has one.
At the beginning of his time at the orphanage, John did not talk. It was thought that maybe he was deaf. But, as the seizures stopped and as he adjusted to his new surroundings John started talking. He speaks Mooré, the local dialect and he understands and speaks a little in French.
The orphanage workers say that John is shy around adults but that he loves to play with the other children. He is kind to the other children. When there is a disagreement or a fight, John withdraws and comes out again when he has calmed down. When another boy is pushing him around, John will fight back and try to defend himself, even sometimes when the older boy is bigger than he is.
John has not been sent to school for 2 reasons. At first it was because it was thought that he was deaf. The second reason, according to the director, is because the orphanage does not have the funds to send the children to school.
The orphanage care-takers feel that John is completely normal physically and mentally and said that he is very rarely even sick with malaria or a cold.

Prized Prince
This is a young man who looks so ready to embrace the love of a family.
Name of Child: Pierre
Sex: Boy
Born: 27 May, 2003
Pierre is not in school. He is deaf. His hearing has been tested by specialists and the conclusion is that he has some hearing and could possibly be helped by hearing aides. The orphanage where he has been placed does not have the means to purchase hearing aides for him or to send him to a special school for the deaf.
Pierre gets along well with all of the children in the orphanage and with the care-givers. His best friend is called Apollinaire and they are the same age. They spend lots of time together. They communicate with simple hand signs. Like all of the children in the home, Pierre is looked after by care-taker and has received some pre-school level training. He can say a few words in French and he can count.
Pierre is in good health. He has not been hospitalized for any illness since coming the to orphanage.
His story is that a woman left Pierre with some children at the side of the road, saying that she was going to go and repair her bike. This woman left and did not come back for him. After waiting a long time, Pierre was taken to the police and was placed the next day in an orphanage (26 May, 2008).
In the two years that Pierre has been in the orphanage no one has called or come by to inquire about him.
Conclusion of the home study is that his status is that of an abandoned child and that adoption is the only route for him to have a family.

True Treasure
Carrington's next friend is a little precious girl named Molly. She lives in Eastern Europe and has needed a family to love her for so long. Molly has been diagnosed with myopathy with no evidence of infantile cerebral paralysis. While Molly cannot sit on her own she does sit when helped and seems to watch all that is going on around her. Born in 2005, she has spent her last 7 years in this orphanage still needing much medical and emotional care. Molly can be heard making babble noises so she just needs someone to help her learn that those sounds can be put together to tell her mommy and daddy what she needs and likes.

Beautiful Blessing
Sammy has so many things to show this world.
Name: Sammy
Born: 8 March, 2003
Sex: Feminine
Father: named but has disappeared since her birth
Mother: died June 2003
Sammy is the product of a teen-age affair between her young mother and a transient construction worker father. Shortly after Sammy’s birth when her mother and her mother’s family contacted the father, he ran away and has not been heard from since.
Sammy’s mother died of a very severe case of malaria when Sammy was just 3 months old. Sammy was cared for by a maternal grandmother for a short time, but the grandmother was already up in years and did not have the energy or the material means to care for an infant. The grandmother sought help from the government social services and Sammy was placed in an orphanage.
Perhaps because of inadequate pre-natal care and post-natal care as well as the premature death of her mother, Samiratou suffers from a slight paralysis of her right arm and leg. Samiratou walks well but cannot walk long distances. She cannot run. She can use her right arm and hand but not completely normally. Specialists here say that she needs surgery and physical therapy to correct this problem.
Samiratou is slightly timid but a very affectionate child. She responds very warmly to attention and affection. She is bright and engaging and at the time of this writing (2012) she is in the 5th grade which is very advanced for her age.

Handsome Hank
Vinnie needs a family so that hint of a smile can burst right through.
Name of Child: Vinnie - not his real name
Born: 22 January, 2010
Father is unknown
Mother: Not well mentally, died on Jan 23, 2010
Vinnie was born on January 22, 2010. His mother was not well mentally and folks from Social Action and from the hospital were watching her to be sure that she received the necessary care when it was time for her to deliver. Due to complications from the birth (excessive bleeding), the mother died on January 23, 2010.
It is thought that Vinnie was the 7th child of his mother.
At two years of age, Victor is not yet walking. He crawls everywhere and seems to be of normal intelligence. He is bright and engaging and loves to play with the other children. It is felt that with proper stimulation and physical therapy, Vinnie will walk.
