My wonderful daughter, Madelaine, and I are creating these special weighted lap blankets with all proceeds going towards bringing our son Teagan home. Teagan is a 4 year old boy with Down syndrome who is very malnourished and in need of a family to love on him. Children with special needs and those who spent their lives in orphanages often have a great need for sensory input to help them with their daily tasks. Our weighted lap blankets were created out of a desire to have something that can go pretty much anywhere my children go and can be utilized with very little effort. Some of the places we take our weighted lap blankets are in the car if we will be on a long car ride, to the doctor office, anywhere there may be large crowds, to church, and school. It is small enough to fit in their bags and with the colorful designs is not seen as something different. So many of the items for children who have sensory needs are not colorful or fun to look at so we decided that needed to change. Our reason for creating these blankets for sale is not only to help raise the money needed to bring Teagan home but we also plan to continue using the proceeds from the sale of these blankets to help raise money for families who desire to grow their family through the blessing of adoption of special needs children.
