Once we arrived at Cook Children's we were seen by the very same men and women nurses nurses and doctors she saw when we first landed on March 17th. The doctor said Carrington did not have the needed blood cells to fight the infection with just oral antibiotics so he was going to admit her. We ended up going up to the same floor and same room Carrington spent her first 5 weeks in. All of the nurses and staff have been coming in all day long to come see just how much the Princess has changed. And to let you all in on how much she has changed: Carrington now weighs in at 18 lbs 8 oz! Hasn't she grown?! It is so wonderful to have our little angel receiving the best of care and love here! Our doctor had her white blood count rechecked and although it is still low the pathologist did not see any signs of leukemia. If we can get Carrington's fever down and the infection to reside then we may be able to go home on Friday.

And here I am on my happy juice (Tylenol) practicing my new found talent:blowing raspberries.

Even sick, this child is absolutely precious! Hoping she gets well soon. My "tough" hubby asks about her all the time - it makes me smile to know she has touched him like that :)
We had the same issue with Beaus g tube. He had cellulitis around his when he first got it put in. We have to keep a gauze around it with either bag balm or a prescription cream around it now or it gets infected quickly. Hoping she heals quickly. I love all the updates!

Remember to be careful with Tylenol and other Acetaminophen products as people with Ds have metabolic differences and due to low levels of glutathione they do not process Tylenol well in the liver which can lead to liver damage. Hollar at me if you want more info on this.
I have discovered that many Dr's, even specialists, who do not specifically specialize in Ds have no idea about this. But don't worry, short term use, not very often, should be just fine.

Im so sorry you guys are back at the hospital. Hopefully for just a short visit this time. She looks so great. I bet they just couldn't believe how much she has grown!

UGH!!! My daughter Angela is a staph carrier, and used to get staph infections in her stoma ALL THE TIME! Drove me crazy. I got good at catching them before they got really bad, but it wasn't easy. Hopefully now that Carrington has gained some weight, and her system knows what to do with food, you can start getting her back to oral feeds and get rid of the gt before too long. It's sure nice to have for meds though, and NEVER having to worry about dehydration! LOL
We are praying for a quick recovery. Hope she can go home soon.

So glad to hear it's not the big L. My Micah has had many infections around his stoma site (including what turned into toxic shock syndrome, but you don't want to hear about that). But he hasn't had any infections since we started using Calmoseptine ointment around the site. It protects the skin from the small amount of stomach acid that occasionally leaks out, thereby keeping the site from getting irritated and then infected. I bought the ointment on Amazon. :-)

So sorry to hear sweet Carrington isn't feeling well and I will certainly pray for a speedy recovery! Princess Carrington, I hope you feel better soon so you can go back home with your mommy, daddy and siblings but in the meantime, it sounds like your nurses and doctors take excellent care of you!
