New Friends

One of the moms in our Ds partnership started a group for our kiddos with Ds  that are a bit older to be able to socialize with one another. Carrington met some new friends even though she was not technically old enough for the group.  I enjoyed watching the children mingle and eat bagels at Boopa's Bagels here in Fort Worth.  The owner of Boopa's Bagels is Holly and she is such an advocate for children with Ds.  She gave the children a tour of the bagel  kitchen where all the yummy bagels are made. So many of the children there were interested in Carrington and kept coming up to her and wanting to talk to her.  This young man named Ben was so super sweet to Carrington and he just wanted to hold her so up on the couch he sat and waited for me to bring her to him.  

Even though my little ones are not ready for this group right now it really gives me great comfort to know that, one day when they are ready, my children will have chance to have social gatherings and make friends just like any other child.  Perhaps this means even more to me given that my children came from a society in which they were both highly disliked and neglected; never given the opportunity to make friends let alone socialize.  Right now the song entitled "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong is playing in my mind as I think about the chances my children will now have and all of the friends Carrington is making already!  Thank you Sheila for starting this little group.

This handsome young man is Ben.  He was so sweet to Carrington and ever so gentle when holding her.  I think this is Carrington's first boy admirer.

Anna Spicer was there with her 2 sisters who have Ds but she spent a lot of time doting on Carrington.

Miss Vera Spicer (who is now an official teenager) came over to  visit with Carrington
